Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease, which is caused by degeneration of articular cartilage, reactive hyperplasia of joint edge and subchondral bone caused by aging, obesity, strain, trauma, joint congenital abnormality, joint deformity and many other factors. The disease is more common in middle-aged and elderly people.

Clinical knee osteoarthritis including four stages, which are as follows:

 

Stage 1 : After heavy exercise or mountain climbing, joint pain, acid swelling and discomfort, mild symptoms, can be relieved after rest, X-ray examination without obvious abnormalities.

 

Stage 2 : joint pain symptoms getting worse, swelling occurs, flexion and extension function is sometimes limited, X-ray film shows mild narrowing of joint space, most common in medial space;

 

Stage 3 : The disease progresses further, the duration of pain and swelling is prolonged, and the recovery time is longer. It is difficult to stand up after squatting, and the bench or chair is needed to stand up.

 

Stage 4 : significant swelling of the knee joint, limited extension and flexion function, varus and valgus deformity in some patients, joint space in the X-ray film, the most common is the narrowing of the medial space, or even the large proliferation of surrounding osteocytes.
